Academics

Provincial testing (EQAO) is one piece of data that we use to monitor and measure school and inpidual student learning. The EQAO assessment measures Reading, Writing as well as Mathematics in grades 3 and 6. This information together with other assessments such as Early Intervention, Developmental Reading Assessments (DRA), Canadian Achievement Test (CAT), CASI, Board developed Numeracy assessments, observations, tests/checklists, student portfolios, peer/self-evaluation, formal and informal testing and screening procedures are all used to get the best overall picture of our school and inpidual student progress. In September, school and student results from EQAO are released and this information is shared with parents and is carefully analysed by all staff and used to inform the School Improvement Planning process.

School Improvement Plan

At the beginning of each year, St. Hubert staff gather to set goals for teaching and student learning. Throughout the school year, this School Improvement Plan is used by all staff to guide our professional development and learning. Based on the goals in the plan, teachers gather a variety of data to monitor our progress and inform changes to our plan aimed at student achievement.

Plans For The Future

At St. Hubert School we plan to continue to use rich tasks as well as the multitude of assessment information we have to continue to deepen and focus our instruction for improved student achievement. We value the professional learning opportunities provided in our school and by the Board and we will continue to examine our own teaching and deepen our own learning to support our students in reaching their full potential. Weaving the Gospel values into our curriculum and everyday life at St. Hubert School is a high priority. As a school we will continue to focus on the following areas for improved student achievement: assessment for and as learning, identification and intervention of at risk students, early intervention in Kindergarten, focused instructional strategies (Literacy & Numeracy), using number talks to strengthen understanding of basic principles in mathematics, planning for purposeful instruction , developing community partnerships, strengthening the home-school connection and strengthening our faith community.
